Lesson 12: Trees in Perspective (Objects, Position, and Perspective)

In this lesson, children master drawing trees different distances away from the viewer. Note that closer trees are drawn larger with thicker strokes and farther trees are drawn smaller with lighter strokes. Also note that the bottom part of all trees' foliage touch the horizon line.

Complete the following drill exercises, using the lesson drawing as a reference. The instructor demonstrates each drawing and directs children to copy the drawings. Children should practice these drawings over the week.

  2. Using a horizon line, draw four broad trees various distances away.
  3. Using a horizon line, draw five broad trees various distances away.
  4. Using a horizon line, draw three broad top trees various distances away.
  5. Using a horizon line, draw five pointed top trees various distances away.
  6. Using a horizon line, draw four pointed top trees various distances away.
  7. Using a horizon line, draw seven broad top trees various distances away.
  8. Using a horizon line, draw five round trees various distances away.
